MIKE GOUCHIE CAMA's 2004 Best Male Artist CAMA's 2004 Best Country Album North American Country Music Associations 2004 International Country Male Vocalist of the Year (NACMAI) 2004 North American Talent Search 1st Place (BEARTRAXX.COM) 2003/04 Country Vocal Spotlight Grand Winning Act 2004 Global Country Rising Star Mike Gouchie, also known as 'The Gouch' was born and raised in Prince George, British Columbia where as a youngster he was pretty much a loner, and a very shy and quiet kind of guy. Look at him now and it's hard to even imagine. Charismatic, kind-hearted and damn good looking too, Mike radiates a magnetic energy that flows right through him and into his passion for music. And this guy has a story to tell! Call it a rebel spirit or just a drive to survive, Mike has overcome many hardships beginning in his childhood right up into adulthood. Nothing has ever come easy for Mike and he quickly learned that the only way to get what you want out of life is through hard work, faith, and perseverance. Brought up in a musical family, Mike was always surrounded with music as his father's friends would bring their instruments over and practice right in their living room. His home was also host to many prayer meetings and some good old country gospel jams. Mike always heard the sounds of the record player scratching out country music greats like Hank Williams, Georgie Jones, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, and Charlie Pride. Music became a part of Mike's heart and soul. Throughout his school years, Mike was better known for his skills in athletics than in music until one day he shocked everyone, including his own family, when he joined a band. Together with some of his old high school friends, they formed a country rock band called Gunshy. A self-taught guitar player with vocal pipes comparable to the likes of Vince Gill & George Strait, Mike was a natural. Young, robust and full of talent and energy, Mike left the comforts of home and toured clubs, played rodeos, and music festivals throughout Western Canada. Suddenly, things quickly changed! Mike's life took on a whole new meaning when fatherhood came knocking' and along came his beautiful girls, Caitlyn then Mariah. Still trying to play music with Gunshy and be a family man wasn't working out so great. Leaving the band was confirmed when he learned that he had twin boys on the way. A touring musician quickly became a stay at home family man with the birth of his twins Skyler and Levi. Mike took his father role very seriously and worked hard in construction and maintenance, playing the odd gig to make ends meet. After a long bumpy road and some hard learned lessons, Mike's life took on another adventure. This is where the story gets interesting! 10 years later is when Mike's incredible musical journey really begins. In 2003, Mike moved to Edmonton Alberta where his fiancée entered him into Northland Park's Country Vocal Spotlight Competition, a contest that attracts extremely talented, young emerging artists from all over Western Canada. Mike made it through the first round, the semi finals, then standing on the stage with the rest of the finalists, the host announced and The Grand Winning act is Mike Gouchie. Could this be the beginning of another amazing Cinderella story? Part of his prize package from the Country Vocal Spotlight was an all expense paid trip down to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee with the Global Country Rising Stars Program. Mike found himself in yet another vocal contest but this time singing in the heart of Tennessee at the Country Tonight Theatre competing in the North American Country Music Association Internationals (NACMAI) talent contest. And it just gets better... Mike walked away with another brand new title as the 2004 International Country Male Vocalist of the Year! Shortly after returning from Nashville, Mike Gouchie's name appeared in the headlines once again, but this time in the Aboriginal Music News. Mike was nominated in four categories of the 2004 Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards which was hosted at the Skydome in Toronto. In recognition of his many accomplishments and the success of his four-song EP titled, 'One of a Kind', Mike was flown out east to Toronto where he performed live at the CAMA's, and won Best Male Artist & Best Country Album. Mike's reputation as a go-getter and hard working artist started to leave an impressive mark with people in the music business and earned him many new friends in the industry. Completely inspired and full of confidence he continued his commitment to record a full-length album. Mike got back to work and built a team of world class musicians, a stellar producer, some phenomenal songwriters, and a crew of committed supporters and Bad Boys & Angels was born!
